Collection: Tree of Lyfe

In Norse mythology, there is a tree that all life stems from, and that houses all of the worlds together connecting all life.
While scientifically, this is now known to be impossible, it’s still a really cool idea. 

The idea of a tree of life is common throughout almost every society: From water giving trees in the dessert to the Christian belief of Jesus on the cross- this symbol of the tree being the thing that gives life is woven into our subconscious so deeply that it’s completely pervasive. 

So lets flip that idea on it’s head- make a super vibrant background of dynamic colour and vibrant imagery- and then take a twisty Burton-inspired black and white tree and slap it on top. 

Makes complete and total sense to me. 

I was actually really happy with this piece when I first finished it. I had really struggled through most of it but at the end, it all seemed to come together quickly and easily. The full painting itself is a lot busier, but by focusing in on one specific area, I was able to really highlight a lot of the painting techniques used.
